FOUR EASY STEPS FOR PARTICIPATING IN YAM!

 1. Celebrate YAM by doing lots of ART in MARCH!

This year’s theme is based on the idea of action. “Action” can be taken literally, as in the action of creating art, art that shows action or physical movement, or even art that calls for action to be taken or contains social/political messages.

  1. PRINT OUT the Proclamation or Endorsement form and have a principal, superintendent, mayor, etc, sign it!

  2. Take digital pictures of your students and their art!

  3. Fill out documentation survey online and email digital pictures in jpeg files to Whitney by June 1st! Whitney Riker (whitr@uga.edu)

Celebrate MARCH - Youth Art Month!

Let's work together to get a national sponsor for Youth Art Month.

Since our next national convention is in Fort Worth, TX, Youth Art Month is trying to petition Country  Music Stars, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, to be our official National Sponsors for Youth Art Month.

We need your students' help. Have your students create a portrait of Blake Sheldon and Miranda Lambert. Download our helpful  portrait template.

When you have completed the portrait template(s), then snail mail them to Mr. Sheldon and Ms. Lambert.

Follow the directions on the 2013 YAM Campaign Letter.

Youth Art Month

Youth Art Month (YAM) is an annual observance each March to emphasize the value of art and art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs. The purposes of YAM are:

  • To direct attention to the value of art education which develops divergent and critical thinking; multi-cultural awareness; and technical, communication and expressive skills.
  • To increase community, business and governmental support for art education.
  • To recognize art as a necessity for the full development of better quality life for all people.
  • To expand art programs in schools and stimulate new ones.
  • To increase community understanding and interest in art and art education through involvement in art exhibits, workshops and other creative ventures.
  • To provide additional opportunities for individuals of all ages to participate in creative art learning.
  • To encourage commitment to the arts by students, community organizations and individuals everywhere.
  • To recognize art education as a viable component of the total education curriculum that develops citizens of a global society.

CAPITOL ART EXHIBIT

The Capitol Art Exhibit is co-sponsored by the Georgia Art Education Association and the Office of the Secretary of State and is the premier event of Youth Art Month.

The purpose of the exhibit is to share with our legislators and the public the exceptional creative ability of Georgia’s students.
